The Wesleyan chapel, Dampiet Street
This is the Wesleyan chapel situated in Dampiet Street, Bridgwater. The photo taken in 2011. The chapel had previously been part of a furniture and bedding selling storage unit. As the front of building shows it was built in 1816 and enlarged in 1860. In 2011 the main part of the chapel is unused and sealed with boards, although an adjoining building is now converted into living accommodation.

The crown slipped
Part of early twenty-first century life is another closed pub. This poor nineteenth century drinking house, wedged in between houses and shops, has remained closed since 2003 and is awaiting a firm move to convert it into flats.

Non-conformity in Bridgwater
The Unitarian Church in Dampiet Street, standing proudly after over three hundred years of free thinking. In 1662 the Reverend John Norman was cast out of the parish church for his radical style and preaching; he kept a congregation and in 1688 they were able to occupy this building. A Sunday school was founded here in the mid-eighteenth century, and the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge preached her towards the end of that century. It is now Grade II* listed.
