Pillbox and engine house, Charlton
Alongside the towpath beside the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal. The engine house was derelict until recently ( http://webapp1.somerset.gov.uk/her/details.asp?prn=43831 ) but has now been restored as a smart dwelling; the gate prominently displays the date 1826, the year before the canal became operational. The World War II pillbox, indicating the significance of the canal as a defence line in case of invasion, is apparently Type A.

Bridgwater & Taunton Canal - pumping engine house
An 1826 pumping engine house that I believe was home to the 33.5" cylinder Boulton & Watt beam pumping engine ordered in 1825. According to the expert on Boulton and Watt pumping engines only a few feeders remain at this grid reference but there is a substantial engine house now converted to a home. This apparently pumped from the River Tone to the canal and later supplied water troughs on the adjoining railway.
