Bowden's Old Lace Factory
This building was built in c1825. It was built as a lace factory. Lace making became a major industry in Chard from the 1820s onwards. This was in part due to riots and unrest in the traditional lace making towns such as Nottingham.

Old Town Mill, Chard
This mill was built in 1825 on the site of an earlier mill that burnt down. It is of fireproof construction with an internal engine house and the full height plinth of a demolished chimney. It was used for lace production. Originally owned by Wheatley & Co it later was owned by Boden & Co.
This site is now being redeveloped with some loss of curtilage listed buildings. Plans include a leisure centre but a planned library has not been funded.

It was used for lace production. Originally owned by Wheatley & Co it later was owned by Boden & Co and extended with the grand gateway built in 1901.
