Two views of Castle Street 1 - Bishop's Castle, Shropshire
The castle was built by Norman bishops of Hereford, as Marcher Lords responsible for the defence of the borderlands between England and Wales. By the end of the Civil War the castle was a ruin and this area is virtually all that remains. Buildings along Castle Street and Church Street are thought to be on the site of the outer boundary of the castle. Narrow streets are one of the features of the town which was established by the first half of the 12th century. This view is taken from the castle boundary, looking southwards down Castle Street. Time taken 12.23 pm BST (British Summer Time). Image

Motte and Bailey on the northern fringe of Bishop’s Castle
Not much is evident of the old structures, other than the prominence of the land. This sits on private land owned and maintained by homeowners in the area of The Wintles. It is obviously a restful spot to enjoy some quiet reflection.
