Powell's Almshouses, Ludlow
I wondered why this row of 3 houses had numbers 1 2 and 3 on their dark blue doors, out of sequence with adjacent houses in Corve Street and St Mary's Lane. The explanation is that they were formerly Powell's Almshouses. Numbers 4 and 5 are out of shot, about 50 metres behind numbers 1-3.

Viewed from Corve Street. About 120 metres ahead, at the edge of a railway,
the course of St Mary's Lane changes abruptly from heading northeastwards to heading westwards.

The Unicorn Inn, Corve Street
Along the far end of Corve Street (the end furthest from the town centre), and sometimes referred to as lower Corve Street, can be found The Unicorn Inn. This attractive and friendly former 17th century coaching inn was for a time during the 1980's a nightclub called Cagney's. Well worth straying from the town centre to visit. A more detailed history and details of the inn's facilities can be found on its own website: http://www.unicorninnludlow.co.uk/

The Unicorn Inn, Corve Street, showing former coach entrance
A former 17th century coaching inn, The Unicorn Inn, in Corve Street, still has the entrance formerly used by coaches. Despite the presence of the parked vehicle, the entrance can clearly be seen in this view. Today it leads to a pleasant riverside terrace and garden with outdoor seating adjacent to the River Corve. The inn was part of a building development on land backing onto the river. The inn has its own website: http://www.unicorninnludlow.co.uk/
