Houses in a former industrial village on the Shrewsbury coalfield. Barytes from the Stiperstones was processed here and there was also a brickworks and colliery. The railway station is long gone, but the Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth railway line runs past the village.

Hanwood railway station (site), Shropshire
Opened in 1861 by the Shrewsbury & Welshpool Railway on the line between those places, this line was jointly owned by the Great Western and London & North Western Railway. The station closed to passengers in 1960 and completely in 1964. View north east towards Shrewsbury, from approximately the same position as Image, taken some 23 years earlier. The old station house has disappeared in the meantime and a new row of houses been built.
