Memorial to an American fighter pilot at Church Pulverbatch
2nd Lieutenant Arthur D. Brody was based at a training flight at Atcham, a local USAAF (United States Army Air Force) base and flew over here on a training flight, during which, apparently he executed a turn whilst close to the ground, clipped or struck a tree and his plane cartwheeled into the ground, and burned. It was June 25th 1944. I expect he was itching to fly his P47 Thunderbolt in the invasion of Europe, do his bit and help end the war early, gaining glory, serving the Allied cause and hopefully staying safe to return home to Des Moines, Iowa one day soon. His loss is not forgotten, his sacrifice is acknowledged.
