Wellcroft, SHREWSBURY, SY4 3RJ

This close or cul-de-sac development of newish executive-type homes is called Wellcroft. Even though it has stood here for several years now it still seems a little at odds with the rest of the village, where plenty of architectural variety can be seen. I know that new developments are really vital for village life (bringing in the spending power of new residents, keeping school rolls up etc) but they often look pretty sterile, unchanging, Stepford-like and unimaginative. Though whether this perception of mine is wrong, or the fault of the architects, planners, builders or the residents I can't say. So I better shut up and move on...

Worn by centuries of use.

A pretty church.

A pretty village and parish church, though the view from the road at this angle is somewhat blighted by the overhead cables.

The two chimneys argue for domestic residential use but the large doors argue for vehicular or business use. Was it the old forge or smithy?

This house appears to be unoccupied and maybe partly derelict, bereft of window glass and unmodernised.

The roof is in good nick, so too are the tall chimneys but the windows appear to be out, guttering missing and the building presents a neglected aspect to the passing eye.

I was lucky enough to be present as the church bells struck 3pm - very melodic and pleasant it was too on a still, chilly and fresh February afternoon.
