Looking back the way I have come
Always nice to perform a 180 and see what I have already seen from a different perspective. Maybe one day I will do all my walks again, but in reverse, so to speak, so I can appreciate the obverse, if that is the correct term?

Shrawardine Castle
Detailed of the few remaining blocks of castle stone standing. This looks like a castle latrine outlet??

Approaching Shrawardine castle ruins
Interesting looking mounds and stone ruins ahead. I like a castle. OK, they were symbols of conquest, subjugation, dominance and control by a new foreign ruling élite bent on exploitation, self-aggrandisement, murder, ethnic cleansing, rape, theft, etc., etc. but today they are nice to wander around and think about Arthurian standards of chivalry, clothyard longs, Shakespearean pre-battle speeches and revolts.

Remains of Shrawardine Castle
This castle was built in the mid 12th century, see http://www.castlewales.com/shraw.html and destroyed in the 17th century. Some of its stones were used to repair Shrewsbury Castle. To be honest, there is not a lot to see now, although my photo does not show its fullest extent. For example, you can clearly see archways in the stonework when you're there.

Shrawardine Castle
All that remains of what would have been an impressive 12th century defensive castle. Oliver Cromwell was responsible for its original destruction.

Part of the castle ruins at Shrawardine
Looks like a little stone space rocket has landed. Now that sounds like the start of a children's book....
