Mermaid Garden, Borth
One of the many imaginative and colourful gardens the residents on the seaward side of the village have created. Not much will grow on a shingle storm beach but what does is worth the effort.

Y Borth
Borth is a unique settlement, strung out in a long line, wedged between a storm beach on one side and a massive peat bog on the other. Its houses, many of which began life as fishermen's huts, have no foundations. This view of the village from the cliff to the south shows both its vulnerability and its uncommon beauty.

Sentry box: Borth sea defences
Borth does not have beach huts - they could be smashed to matchwood at almost any time of the year by a high tide and westerly gale - but this brightly coloured sentry box is used to shelter members of the workforce deployed to (very politely!) persuade members of the public that it is not a good idea to clamber over the boulders or machinery that scatter the beach at present.

Here comes the carnival
Regardless of how dreadful the weather has been - and 2011 has had a dull and damp summer - the day of the carnival at Borth is almost invariably sunny. Here the vanguard of the procession is making its way down the street, collection tins rattling all the way.

High Street, Borth
Houses on the sea (west) side of the street, opposite the old school building, now a chemist shop and health centre. The photo was taken for the sheer joy of seeing some early morning sun after three days of grey clouds and heavy rain!

Borth on an (almost) typical Summer's Day!
Although I know the sun does shine, it sometimes doesn't feel like it!
