Under the bridge
Bridge 115 carries Rhallt Lane over the Montgomery Canal. There was a small wharf here and, on the right beside the picnic area are the remains of three lime kilns http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/581739 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/581745 .

Lime kilns at Buttington Wharf
Limestone and coal were brought by barge on the Montgomery Canal to the wharf above and tipped directly into the kiln. The lime was spread onto the fields to improve the grazing. This is typical of a number of kilns next to the canal.
