Van Railway Track bed
The track bed can be seen alongside the fence. The railway ran from Van to Caersws, its main purpose being to service the lead mine near here. The mine closed in the 1920's and presumably so did the railway.

Western approach to Van Terrace
The terrace of miners' houses is the main group of older buildings in the village. It is now surrounded by a variety of newer properties. Van is a very different place from the derelict mining village I came across years ago; with the mining remains all but vanished under vegetation it now has the air of a desirable place to live. "Van" is derived from the "Fan" in "Y Fan", the Welsh "F" being pronounced like the English "V".

Old agricultural implements beside Glyndwr's Way
A not uncommon sight on many farms everywhere, a few old bits of outdated machinery just left beside the path here, their scrap value never realised and instead they have been a rubbing post for countless generations of sheep.
