During the Chartist political unrest of April 1839 three local men were arrested and detained in this hotel. On 30th April 1839 a large crowd broke in and freed them. The town then remained under military occupation for over a year.

Llanidloes Town Hall
Opened on Easter Monday 1908, this was built by Shayler and Ridge Architects of Shrewsbury for David Davies of Llandinam. The English Renaissance building takes influences from the Art Nouveau movement, and this also housed the public library and temperance hotel for some time. This Edwardian building is one of my favourite buildings in Llanidloes.

Siop yr Oen butchers, Llanidloes
This Welsh lamb, Yr Oen, is suspended over the pavement of Great Oak Street. Although the shop is now a butcher's, it used to sell carpets, and I think the animal is there as a reference to wool rather than meat.
