Inscription on Malpas cross
Malpas High Street is dominated by a large sandstone cross. The original medieval base is now surmounted by an ornate pillar dating to 1873 and commemorating Reverend Charles Augustus Thurloe M.A. The cross is Grade II listed: http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=55597&mode=quick The inscription reads: IN MEMORY OF THE REVEREND AUGUSTUS THURLOW. M.A. CHANCELLOR OF THE DIOCESE OF CHESTER AND FOR 33 YEARS RECTOR OF THE UPPER MEDIETY OF MALPAS BORN JULY 3rd 1802 DIED JULY 5th 1873. ERECTED BY HIS CHILDREN

Malpas cross from Church Street
Malpas cross has a medieval base, but the upper section was erected in 1873 to commemorate Reverend Augustus Thurlow M.A., the local Rector. There is an inscription on the other side Image The cross is Grade II listed http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=55597&mode=quick and stands at the junction of Church Street, High Street, Well Street, and Oldhall Street.

High Street, Malpas
The expanding village of Malpas has upwards of 60 listed buildings and structures. This view of the High Street shows on the far right the Queen Victoria Jubilee Hall, and on the near right an elegant town house built around 1840. For many years this building sported an Edwardian single storey front extension, and served as the post office.
