Malpas cross has a medieval base, but the upper section was erected in 1873 to commemorate Reverend Augustus Thurlow M.A., the local Rector. There is an inscription on the other side Image The cross is Grade II listed http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=55597&mode=quick and stands at the junction of Church Street, High Street, Well Street, and Oldhall Street.
