Pony paddock
This lovely, well-mannered and shrewd pony was out grazing as I approached and when it noticed me it politely retreated to its stable and waited for me to pass. How clever! It did both itself and me a favour; I am as uncertain about livestock as they are about me, neither party knows what it is dealing with and this sensible, polite and canny manoeuvre enables us both to assess each other at a distance rather than being forced to interact at close quarters on very short notice. I chatted to her at the end and she was coming forward to hold a convo but I was already exiting her paddock at this stage so we didn't get to know one another better. Fine by us both I'm sure. I am also sure she is someone's pride and joy - such a canny friend to have!

Tree at the junction
A massive, imposing and mature tree that looks like an explosion I thought.

Closeup of the pub sign for the Bull & Dog pub at Coton near Whixall
I was amused to see that the bull and the dog interacted so well - showing mutual respect. The dog is a bulldog, used in this nation's dismal past as a bull baiting dog as we all acknowledge, a shameful sport from a benighted era. Bulldogs are friendly, gentle, affectionate, tolerant and noble dogs. I have owned one. It is good so see the breed portrayed so well here.

The Bull & Dog public house at Coton near Whixall, Shropshire
A roadside country pub that presents itself very smartly from the outside and is warm and very welcoming on the inside too. Looks like a great place and actually is.
