This lovely, well-mannered and shrewd pony was out grazing as I approached and when it noticed me it politely retreated to its stable and waited for me to pass. How clever! It did both itself and me a favour; I am as uncertain about livestock as they are about me, neither party knows what it is dealing with and this sensible, polite and canny manoeuvre enables us both to assess each other at a distance rather than being forced to interact at close quarters on very short notice. I chatted to her at the end and she was coming forward to hold a convo but I was already exiting her paddock at this stage so we didn't get to know one another better. Fine by us both I'm sure. I am also sure she is someone's pride and joy - such a canny friend to have!
