Speed the Plough
A Grade II listed building dating from the late 17C/early 18C with a 19C extension is on the corner of Castle Foregate and New Park Road. It shares a frontage with the Morris Lubricants' factory in the former Perseverance Iron Works. This was an industrial area of the city with the former terminal basin of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal nearby. The pub may re-open as a shop.

God Speed the Plough
The motto above the entrance to the former Perseverance Iron Works is Speed the Plough. The factory manufactured agricultural implements. The saying is picked up in a folk song performed on Plough Monday, after old twelfth night. So Jolly boys now Here’s God speed the plough Long life and success to the farmer. The pub on the corner is also called the Plough Inn Image

The three-armed signpost is on a corner at the edge of a Kwik Fit site. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4742043 It shows routes and average travel times for cyclists and walkers. For example, the arm pointing left shows that Shrewsbury railway station is 3 minutes away for walkers, 1 minute for cyclists.

Former public house, Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury
The grey building was a public house - The Plough. This was built late 17th/early 18th century and was licensed premises from 1786, but alas no more. It is Listed Grade II. The much more interesting (in my opinion) former ironworks next door is not listed.
