God Speed the Plough
The motto above the entrance to the former Perseverance Iron Works is Speed the Plough. The factory manufactured agricultural implements. The saying is picked up in a folk song performed on Plough Monday, after old twelfth night.
So Jolly boys now
Here’s God speed the plough
Long life and success to the farmer.

Morris Lubricants
Thomas Corbett established the Perseverance Iron Works on this site in Castle Foregate in the 1870s. The works burnt down in 1905 but the frontage on St Michael's Road was saved. Morris Lubricants took over the premises in 1929.
