13 St Alkmond's Place, Shrewsbury - Bear Steps Art Gallery
One of the several buildings dating from the late 15th or early 16th century, which were collectively Grade II* listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101270615-8-15-st-alkmonds-place-shrewsbury#.XEV31lz7RPY in 1953. The whole group is thought to have originally been cottages, but built around an earlier medieval hall, and now includes a number of houses and businesses in the Bear Steps area, such as Image, Image & Image

Fish Street
Runs parallel to High Street. It is called Fish Street because historians believe that fish was often sold in the area, from as early as the 15th century.

12 Fish Street, Shrewsbury
The right-hand half of a pair of 15th century, timber-framed buildings (Image lies just around the corner on the left) which were Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101247178-12-and-12a-fish-street-shrewsbury#.XEV1blz7RPY in 1953. The brick cladding is a rather unfortunate early 19th century 'improvement', and presumably some of the windows in the upper floors and the shop frontage are later additions, but parts of the original roof structure are believed to be visible internally.

Bear Steps
This short flight of steps between Fish Street and St Alkmund’s Place, opposite Grope Lane, is known as Bear Steps. It is supposedly named after a pub called ‘The Bear’, which no longer exists. An alternative version is given at http://www.mythstories.com/bears.html.
