The bellstone at Morris Hall
The granite boulder known as the Bellstone, which also gave the street its name. Note the contrast it makes with the soft local Red Sandstone of the wall behind. These hard igneous rocks make a ringing sound when struck hence the name. See Image] for further details.

Morris Hall Yard , Bellstone
Off the street named Bellstone is Morris Hall which stands on the site of the mediaeval Bellstone Hall, demolished in 1934 and replaced by this venue for meetings and events. In the yard (on the right of the steps) is the Bellstone itself, a glacial erratic carried down from the north during the ice age. Its origins intrigued Charles Darwin as a boy and it said to have awakened his interest in geology and the past. See Image]

Eating at the Market
One of the biggest changes in recent years is the development of market stalls as restaurants. There has always been a market cafe somewhere, selling bacon butties, cake, and tea. But it is now common to use one of the stalls for more specialist (and enjoyable) comestibles. This one, "House of Yum" serves Thai specialities.
