7-9 Pride Hill, Shrewsbury
Recognisably one of A.N. Bromley's works for Boots (e.g. compare
Image]), this time with H.G. Watkins. Built in 1915. Pevsner is critical, describing it as "another misguided attempt to carry on the town's half-timbered tradition. Yet with alien pargeting and 'Ipswich' windows". Grade II listed.
Boots is still here.

Lower Pride Hill in Shrewsbury on the evening the Christmas lights are switched on in 2021
The people came. They saw some lights being switched on. The drizzle fell. The shops were shut. They went home.
I did manage to purchase some takeaway coffees and Italian pastries but the event certainly was in the 'anti-climax' category as public events go.
It was my first, and might well be my last.
Most other countries seem to do events much better than us in the UK. They have better social cohesion though I think. We have to work at that. The UK suffers from distrust, division and disunity.
Covid has not helped.
Here's to a better future!!
