The people came. They saw some lights being switched on. The drizzle fell. The shops were shut. They went home. I did manage to purchase some takeaway coffees and Italian pastries but the event certainly was in the 'anti-climax' category as public events go. It was my first, and might well be my last. Most other countries seem to do events much better than us in the UK. They have better social cohesion though I think. We have to work at that. The UK suffers from distrust, division and disunity. Covid has not helped. Here's to a better future!!
