Former Jessops store, Rous Hill
The Shrewsbury premises of the national camera/photographic chain Jessops (of Leicester), which went into administration in January 2013 with the loss of over 1350 jobs nationally. Update mid April 2013 - this store, along with a number of others around the country, has now re-opened as part of a slimmed-down relaunch of the chain Image

The re-opened Jessops store, Shrewsbury
After all the Jessops stores closed some have re-opened after Peter Jones of Dragons’ Den bought some of them. The range of cameras in the Shrewsbury store does not seem to be a large as before but at least there is a camera shop in town!

60 Mardol, Shrewsbury
Stokes Domestic Appliances occupies a Grade II listed https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101254617-60-mardol-shrewsbury#.WsR3N_nwaM8 late 17th or early 18th century dwelling house, most likely converted to a shop in the 18th. The pitch of the roof suggests that there's a timber framed building lurking beneath it all.

Remains of Bennett's Hall on Pride Hill
This arched doorway, and another a few yards to its right, along with the intervening wall and fireplace, represent most of the remains of a 13th century merchant's town house known as Bennett's Hall, Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101254707-remains-of-bennetts-hall-2-and-3-pride-hill-shrewsbury#.XXUz1ChKjcs & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1254707 in 1953. There is also a short piece of similar walling in the courtyard at the rear of the modern building that surrounds what we see here. The unfortunate town house has suffered badly over the years, being partially demolished in the late 16th century and a series of cottages erected within its curtilage. What remains is now a feature at the rear of the Pret a Manger restaurant on Pride Hill.
