Cow with horns!
Unusual to see a cow with horns - they are usually disbudded (dehorned) when young. Horned cattle may cause injuries to other cattle, especially in confined places and are potentially more dangerous to their handlers.

Newborn lamb at the field gate
I spotted this little newborn lamb and had to come over and snap her. Her mum nearby was most agitated and stamped and turned little circles. I moved away fast and they reunited.

Motte at Ty'n-y-celyn near Llanrhaedr-ym-Mochnant
The Norman garrison would have defended the top of the wooden palisaded motte which was protected by its dry ditch or moat. Even today it is hard to scale, let alone when your legs are filled with lactic acid, your lungs are pumped to bursting point, an enemy is hurling spears, boulders or firing arrows down on you and the din of battle fills the air. This type of conflict may never have occurred here and today it is the most peaceful spot imaginable, 'smale foweles maken melodie' and the breeze drifts by and a distant pony whinnies and I could sit on that bank all afternoon and have a decent 40 winks....

The southern face of the motte at Ty'n-y-celyn near Llanrhaedr-ym-Mochnant
This weather side of the motte is where the activities of the rabbits and lambs are highest.

Motte at Cefn-coch
A fine example of a motte; it is in a commanding position over the valley to the south. There are clear remains of a ditch around its base on the western side, but no sign of a bailey or other associated earthworks.
