Stockwell Underground station
Stockwell station was opened in 1890 on what was London's first true 'tube' railway, the City and South London. Situated at a busy five-way road crossing, the station was always well-used, but became even more so when in 1971, the Victoria Line was extended to Brixton, giving interchange at Stockwell with the Northern Line, which had incorporated the C&SL in the 1930s.

Memorial to Jean Charles de Menezes
Outside Stockwell station is a memorial to Jean Charles de Menezes, a man who was shot dead by police who mistakenly believed he was a terrorist. The incident took place on the station platform.
