Wilcox Road, SW8
Looking towards Wandsworth Road. This is an important local shopping area. The weather is cold and rainy so not many people are about. In the far distance, centre shot, are the chimneys of the now decommissioned Battersea Power Station.

Nine Elms Station, Wandsworth Road
On its first day of operation. It is one of two stations on a new Northern Line extension from Kennington, the terminus being Battersea Power Station. They will serve an area being filled with hideous towers, examples of which can be seen behind, as well as the revamped power station, US Embassy etc.

Ex-LC&DR R1 0-4-4T in Nine Elms Locomotive Yard, 1947
Viewed probably eastward near the turntable, No. 1696 is one of the few Chatham line (pre-1899) locomotives ex-SE&CR remaining on the SR after the Second World War and then for a short time after Nationalization. The Kirtley R1 class, No. 696 being the first in 11/1900, were all built after their designer retired following the 1899 amalgamation with the SER; it duly became No. A696 after Grouping and No. 1696 in 1931, but was withdrawn under BR in 3/51 before receiving a BR number. From Nine Elms it worked the same duties as its few H and numerous M7 0-4-4T companions. [I took this rather inferior photograph with my first cheap camera in poor weather].

Nine Elms Underground station, London
Opened in 2021 on the Northern Line of London Underground between Kennington and Battersea Power station. Forecourt looking north west on Wandsworth Road. The scale of high rise buildings in the area is evident.
