Cromwell Road, Earl's Court, London
This row of terraced properties is situated opposite "The BUPA Cromwell Hospital". In the distance is the glass-fronted "London (Kensington) Marriott Hotel". No.153 Cromwell Road, the house nearest the camera - with grey stone blocks providing the structure around its bay window - was the home of Alfred Hitchcock between 1926-1939. Hitchcock married his assistant director, Alma Reville, at the Brompton Oratory in South Kensington, London in December 1926 and their only child - Patricia - was born on 7 July 1928. These facts suggest that this was their marital home for 12-13 years. Alma, who was born one day after Alfred in the St Ann's area of Nottingham, became Hitchcock's closest collaborator although Hitchcock would only discuss her contributions to his films - some of which were credited on screen - in private because she was always keen to avoid public attention.
