Trinity Hospice
Originally a house called The Elms, built in 1754. Among past residents were the Quaker and banker Robert Barclay who lived there until his death in 1816 and the architect Sir Charles Barry who lived here from 1853 until his death in 1860 (and who is commemorated with a blue plaque on the building). In 1891, an appeal by William Hoare of the Hoare banking family led to the founding of a hospice, the Free Home of the Dying, which was set up in The Chase, Clapham, moving to The Elms following its purchase in 1899. Run by nuns, it was renamed the Hostel of God in 1910. The role of nuns ceased in 1976 and the hospice renamed as Trinity Hospice in 1980. Grade II listed - see https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1080495?section=official-list-entry. The main building seen here has the address 29 Clapham Common North Side, with the hospice now including the adjacent nos 30 - 32 which were purchased later.
