The Old Burial Ground, Royal Hospital Chelsea
King Charles II founded the Royal Hospital as a retreat for veterans in 1682. A full history can be seen here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Hospital_Chelsea
The Burial Ground was closed for burial of In-Pensioners in 1854. A plot in Brompton Cemetery was used from 1855 until 1893 when a portion of Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, known as the Old Plot, was acquired. That was closed for burials in 1962 although it continued to be used for the interment of cremated remains until 2004. A second plot at Brookwood, known as the New Plot, is still used for burials - see www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7346234 The Burial Ground here at Chelsea was reopened for the interment of cremated remains in 2004.
These include the ashes of Denis Thatcher who died in 2003 and Margaret Thatcher who died in 2013 - see www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7601200
