An ornate entrance to Harrods
In 1849, Henry Charles Harrod took over a small shop in Knightsbridge on Brompton Road. His son, Charles Digby Harrod, took over in 1861 and by 1867 had five assistants working for him and his turnover was estimated at £1,000 per week. This is one of the entrances to Harrods and is in Hans Road. The use of terra cotta was quite innovative - it was very hard-wearing and easy to clean.
