Coal plate, Gloucester Street, SW1
'Luxfer Prisms' were small refracting glass panes, the idea being to bend daylight passing through windows and the like to improve the spread of light within. Sometimes they were set in cast iron panels in the street to illuminate cellars better. Whether this coal plate ever had glass in place of the inset cement is a moot point. Certainly the firm would have had a relationship with a foundry for their more usual street panels, perhaps coal plates were just a sideline.
