Bournemouth line train passing Wimbledon, 1966
The locomotive is Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 no.34064 'Fighter Command'. This was the only British Railways express locomotive to be fitted with the Giesl Oblong Ejector type of chimney. Although effective at improving the economy of operation, with reduced coal consumption, the Giesl ejector came too late to prolong the use of steam locomotives.

Footbridge over the railway
This bridge links through from Allt Grove (a little stub of a street off Worple Road) to Dundonald Road on the SE side of the railway. I've known this bridge for over 50 years, and remembered a passageway that led to it - starting from a point opposite the forecourt of Wimbledon station and running alongside the 'Railway Tavern'. Walking around the area for the first time in many years I was surprised to find that the passageway still exists, threading through between tall commercial buildings that now occupy the site. The pub has vanished without trace.

164 bus on stand in Worple Road, Wimbledon
Despite the appearance, the first figure of the three often disappears on these buses on all routes and this is indeed a 164.
