Plough Lane, seen from the car park of the retail park
In the early days of the Industrial Revolution this stretch of the Wandle valley must have seen all manner of pioneering industrial development, large and small. The Surrey Iron Railway ran nearby. I have to say that I've known the area for more than half a century, and in that time it's always seemed something of a 'brownfield-site'. The scrapyards have gone, and so has the old Dons' stadium - but present commercial developments along Plough Lane have a provisional, makeshift air about them.
In the background in this shot is the poor old Hare and Hounds http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3828104 now - sadly - painted the colour of canned tomato-soup!
