Clock and sundial of St Mary?s Barnes
The clock face and sundial on the south side of the tower were restored in 2013. Compare Image to see its pre-restoration state, and also (being taken on a sunnier day than this) the accuracy of the dial allowing for summer time. The quotation "abide with us for the day is far spent" is Biblical (Luke 24 v.29, Authorised Version). The church is listed grade 2* (list entry number 1358083).

Boer War memorial at St Mary's Church, Barnes
St Mary's Church, Barnes was built in the early 12th century. It was enlarged and re-consecrated in 1215 after the signing of Magna Carta. It was extended to the west in the 13th century, and later to the east, creating a chancel. A west tower was added in the late 15th century. The north wall was demolished in the late 18th century to create a north aisle. A major fire on 8 June 1978 destroyed parts of the church, but left the tower and Norman chapel almost intact.  Memorials to the Boer War are not common. This one is just inside the lych gate. See also https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2915299 and https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4276426

Side chapel in St Mary?s Barnes
This side chapel in St Mary's Image, along with the tower, is the only part of the ancient church that survived a major fire in the 1970s. The church is however still listed grade 2* (list entry number 1358083).

St Mary's church, Barnes
The parish church of St Mary has an unusual shape. On the left is the side chapel, all that remains of the ancient church after a fire in 1978. In the centre is the new worship area and on the right the parish rooms, making the third side of an open quadrangle.
