View down the line from Balham station
Balham station opened in 1856 but has been rebuilt many times. This view from the end of the platform looks away from Victoria, although some trains heading in this direction head back to London Bridge. The line straight ahead continues to Streatham Hill, whilst four tracks veer to the right just before the distant gantry to cross Tooting Bec Common along the route followed by coastal trains and the Gatwick Express.
