Development, Nine Elms Lane (6)
In relation to "the 'opportunity area' of which Battersea is the centrepiece – VNEB, short for Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea" - Owen Hatherley has remarked that its "ruthlessly overdeveloped nature ... devoid of planning, intelligence or character, is a genuine nadir".
Nadir might be flattering it, particularly at the Vauxhall end of Nine Elms Lane. This is more like anti-planning, its relationship to planning similar to that of matter to anti-matter. An architectural horror show, very high density, incoherent buildings yelling at each other in incomprehensible languages. The Carbuncle Cup shortlist must be written as the towers go up.
On the far right is a sliver of the new US Embassy.

From a train leaving Victoria Station. Vauxhall/Battersea has been a hotbed of construction activity for some time.
The new US Embassy is just visible (

Bourne Valley Wharf, Nine Elms
In the middle is signs of a small filled in dock, shown as about the size of one barge on old maps. The Bourne Valley Wharf was to the right of this, and to the left was a coal wharf.

The American Embassy at Nine Elms
The American Embassy was opened in December 2017, having moved from its previous location in Grosvenor Square. It is on the right here on the other side of its moat. A wildflower meadow has been created as well as the moat for part of the work for the Embassy. Security at the entrance was somewhat intimidating with gun-toting police. A view of the whole building can be seen at https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7084895

This is the one that President Trump refused to visit, as it was south of the river and in Battersea. Larry, the Downing Street cat, tweeted how upset he was as he came from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and there was nothing wrong with Battersea.
