Brompton Cemetery from Fulham Road entrance
After the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, London's population increased from 1 million in 1800 to over 2.6 million by 1850. Existing burial grounds were unable to cope with the increased demand, therefore Parliament authorised the establishment of seven commercial cemeteries around London, of which Brompton is an outstanding example. It was known as the West of London and Westminster Cemetery.
Today the stones have a small coating of snow

Two red telephone kiosks at entrance to Brompton Cemetery, Fulham Road, London SW10
This is the South Gate entrance to Brompton Cemetery, which appears to be guarded by two traditional red telephone kiosks. It is a wonder that they have survived, as so many have been removed.
