Bowling Green House probably took its name from the bowling green belonging to a nearby tavern called the Cumberland Arms, converted into a private house by 1829.

Chelsea houseboat village
Seen from Cheyne Walk, these are the most exclusive houseboats in London. Residents include artist Damien Hirst and previous residents have included Sir Laurence Olivier. Residents own the boats but must buy a five or 10-year licence to moor, which can cost up to £60,000 plus annual berthing and maintenance fees of about £160 per foot of mooring. Chelsea houseboat village was once known for its bohemian lifestyle, but many of the vessels now house wealthy professionals seeking an alternative lifestyle. It has been compared to a floating Coronation Street because of the strength of community spirit. In this view Battersea Bridge can be seen beyond the boats, with the distinctive outline of Albert Bridge beyond that.
