The stone cross, Talke
This cross was erected in 1253 on the site of the market at "Talk o' th' Hill" and was restored in 1887. It stands opposite the Swan Inn, near to St Martin's Church.

Talke Cross

Talke Cross
Talke is an older settlement than it seems, mentioned in Domesday. This grade II listed cross (list entry 1038557) was restored in 1887 but the original dated from c.1253. The 18th century house behind (Cross House) is also grade II listed.

St Martin, Talke: east end
The parish church of this small but ancient village dates from 1794 'with mid-C19 alterations and additions' (the Church Heritage Record includes drawings dated 1832 by local architect Charles Trubshaw). It is listed grade II (list entry 1374385). This is the apsidal east end. The parish is one of the most northerly in the Diocese of Lichfield, the county and diocesan boundary with Cheshire East / Chester being just a few hundred metres to the north-west of here.
