Royal Doulton factory, Burslem
Seen from the corner of Nile Street and Zion Street, a derelict Royal Doulton factory building. There used to be other buildings of Royal Doulton in the empty space just behind the white gate and fence.

Royal Doulton Fine China, Nile Street, Burslem - boiler house
The position is approximate as the boiler house and most of the site has been demolished. These large economic boilers supplied three Belliss and Morcom steam engines driving alternators and these ran into the 1990s. Looking at the plumbing I think that were probably capable of being fired on gas as well as oil.

Royal Doulton; Oyal Ulton
From this position you would hardly know that practically the entire site has been converted to piles of broken brick and cleared land.

Royal Doulton Fine China, Nile Street, Burslem
This is the power house with two large package boilers, originally coal fired with chain grate stokers and three Belliss and Morcom reciprocating steam engines driving alternators. The engines ran beyond 2000 but a picture taken in 2007 on the "28 days later" urban exploration website shows a sadly empty powerhouse.

Doulton Fine China, Nile Street
Three Belliss & Morcom steam engines driving alternators (2 x 300 kW and 1 x 150 kW). Two were working/workable until 2003. Now removed, probably scrapped. This type of installation was still findable in the 1980s but is now excessively rare.
