The Old Twyfords Factory, Cliffe Vale
A new ideal 'model' factory, Cliffe Vale Pottery, was built by T.W. Twyford in 1887, and his factory manufactured the world's first flushing toilets and other innovative sanitaryware for over 100 years. The Twyfords works closed in 1994, and moved to a purpose-built factory at Alsager. The building was converted to flats in 2008.

Cliffe Vale Pottery
This site is now largely housing but I think this section is being retained although it is difficult to tell under the scaffolding. Two bottle ovens have also been kept between two blocks of flats.

Trent and Mersey Canal, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
The bridge across the canal carries the B5045 (Sheldon New Road). There are also three large pipes crossing the water by the road bridge. The narrow channel under the bridge leads straight into Twyford Lock, the middle of the Stoke-on-Trent flight of five. The colony of Japanese Knotweed flowering profusely by the bridge has spread to several other places up and down the canal.

Canal at Twyford Lock in Stoke-on-Trent
Looking north-north-west towards Shelton New Road Bridge (No 115) and Twyford Lock (No 38) on the Trent and Mersey Canal.
Twyford Lock is the third lock up in the Stoke flight of five, which together raise the water level by fifty feet (15·25m).
Note the infestation of Japanese Knotweed on the right, which the authorities ignored for several years.

Shelton New Road (the B5045) crosses the Trent and Mersey Canal here by Twyford Lock (No 38). Under the bridge the canal entry to the lock from the left is narrow.

This site has largely been cleared and only the central part survived yesterday, rather knocked about and covered in scaffolding.
