Victoria Street, Basford, where H. G. Wells once lived
Victoria Street, on the eastern edge of Newcastle-under-Lyme. There is a grey square plaque on the front of no. 18, which tells that the writer H. G. Wells stayed there during 1888. The industry which once existed in the area was the background of Wells's short story "The Cone", which takes place in an ironworks in the Potteries.
