Above the word 'Basford' are the City of Stoke-on-Trent coat-of-arms and the City's motto VIS UNITA FORTIOR - 'united strength is stronger'. The part of Basford south of the main Etruria Road, the A53, is in Stoke: north of the A53 it is in Newcastle.
