Stoke locomotive depot
A selection of steam and diesel locomotives at Stoke depot, shortly before closure. BR Type 2 diesel electric (class 24 or 25) and Stanier Black 5 locos are visible.
This part of the depot (Pratt Sidings, north of the old line to Biddulph and Leek) is now an industrial estate.
There was also a roundhouse on the west side of the main line to the south (Stone).

Locomotive Yard at Stoke in latter days of Steam, with just 'Black 8s'
By October 1966, steam locomotives on the LMR were becoming monotonously confined to Stanier's 'Black 5s' and 'Black 8s'. Here, just at the time Stoke Depot was closed to steam, were a whole bunch of 8Fs including Nos. 48194 and 48763, but it is doubtful if any were still in steam.

Locomotives at Stoke Shed in latter days of steam
On the left is (probably condemned) LMS Fowler 3F 0-6-0T No. 47273 (built 1924 as No. 7113, withdrawn 11/66); in the middle BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 No.75062 (built 6/57, withdrawn 2/68). Stoke Locomotive Depot (coded 5D) provided a large variety of motive power, having had an allocation of about 100, the 91 in 1954 comprising 6 4-6-0, 41 0-6-0, 30 2-6-4T and 14 0-6-0T, by late 1966 was one of last bastions of steam.
