Crane between Short Street and Chelson Street, Longton
I believe this is on the premises of the Delphine pottery, formerly Hudson & Middleton. There is a similar picture from 1999 on the Pottery History site - http://www.thepotteries.org/photos/short_st/index.htm.
This area has been partly redeveloped for CoRE - Centre of Refurbishment Excellence. I do not know if this particular passageway and crane survive.

Church of St James, Longton
The Church of St James the less, taken from the lower end of Webberley Lane. The Church is by T Johnson, and built 1832-1834.
Pevsner reports that the E window is by Capronnier 1874, and that there is a monument by Baily, which he describes as, "The usual kneeling, mourning female by an urn, but unusually well done".
The building on the left foreground was a Church School, built later than the Church, which housed 100 children on weekdays, studying, the "National Curriculum", and 200 children for Sunday School, it now houses a biomass plant.
