I believe this is on the premises of the Delphine pottery, formerly Hudson & Middleton. There is a similar picture from 1999 on the Pottery History site - http://www.thepotteries.org/photos/short_st/index.htm. This area has been partly redeveloped for CoRE - Centre of Refurbishment Excellence. I do not know if this particular passageway and crane survive.
