St John the Baptist RC Church (interior)
Originally built as a private chapel by Thomas Clifford at Tixall in 1829. The family moved to Burton Constable in 1835 and when the estate was sold in 1845.The chapel was removed stone by stone by the congregation to a site in Great Haywood.
In May 1916 JRR Tolkien and his wife Edith received a Nuptial Blessing of their Lent wedding. Edith like many another officer's wife had moved to Great Haywood to be near her husband whilst training at Brocton Camp on Cannock Chase.

Presbytery at St John the Baptist RC church
JRR Tolkien's wife and her cousin Jennie Groves stayed at the presbytery with Father Emery in April/May 1916.

The Catholic church is listed grade 2 (list entry number 1079630). Although it appears c.16th century style, in fact it is an older building moved in 1845 from Tixall, 2km away.

Old Milepost in Great Haywood village, Colwich parish
Cast iron post by the UC road (was A51), in parish of Colwich (Stafford District), Great Haywood village, by churchyard, opposite Elm Close, in tarmac in front of the low stone retaining wall of the churchyard, on Southeast side of road. Cochrane iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 20th century.
