Doxey Marshes nature reserve
The north end of Doxey Marsh on a cold and murky winter afternoon. The marsh, much of which is designated a Site of Special and Scientific Interest makes an extraordinary and unlikely nature reserve. Managed by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust it is surrounded on the west and east by houses, to the south by Stafford town itself and is split by the main West Coast railway line. To the north it is bounded by the M6!

Doxey Marsh
Looking across the nature reserve towards the mainline railway and Doxey. On a bitterly cold winter afternoon the pond is largely frozen over despite the movement of large numbers of Canada geese - some of which were skating around quite comically.

Doxey Marsh in winter
Canada geese roosting on this pond in Doxey Marshes nature reserve have failed to keep most of the water from freezing. Some can be seen standing up but others just seem to be sitting and sulking! The main West Coast railway line's overhead pylons can just be made out in the distance with Doxey village beyond.

M6 Motorway at junction 14
The northern end of the third (isolated) section of the M6, opened on August 4th 1962. Within a year, this bypass of Stafford was linked to that avoiding Stoke, forming a continuous motorway route between today's junctions 13 and 16.
