Privilege Sculpture Etruria
Denis O’Connor’s sculpture ‘Privilege’ was commissioned in 2005 by Stoke Approach and Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The brief of the sculpture was to fabricate a landmark sculpture to reflect both past achievements and future aspirations of the local area. Privilege is situated on Cavour Street and Etruria Old Road, and as it is adjacent to the A53 it is seen by over 30,000 motorists each day. Standing 9 metres tall and made from stainless steel, Privilege has become a landmark sculpture for the city.

Old Etruria Road in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent
In mellow evening sunlight, looking a little north of east along Old Etruria Road. Before the A53 Etruria Road dual carriageway (adjacent, off to the left) was built, the renamed Etruria Old Road was called Lord Street, and was the main route between Newcastle-under-Lyme and Hanley.
The public house is the highly recommended Holy Inadequate, formerly Railway Hotel, formerly Shelton Bar, formerly New Rendezvous. Since 2017, it has operated its own on-site micro-brewery producing Inadequate Ale.

Steel sculpture at Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent
This magnificent steel sculpture by Denis O'Connor (2005) is called "Privilege", and can be found surrounded by matching benches in a small landscaped park by the A53 Etruria Road south-west of where it crosses the Trent and Mersey Canal. The sculpture depicts local industries, past and present. It is about five metres high.

This magnificent steel sculpture by Denis O'Connor is called "Privilege", and can be found surrounded by matching benches in a small landscaped park by the A53 Etruria Road south-west of where it crosses the Trent and Mersey Canal. The sculpture depicts local industries, past and present. It loses no impact on a dull grey day!
The backdrop is of the gas holder by Etruscan Street.
